My Gear

What am I shooting with? This question comes up enough that it's probably worth making a list...

My "Big Girl" Camera - Canon 5d
My other big girl camera:  Canon 5d MkII
My Cropped Sensor Camera - Canon Rebel xt

Lenses:

Canon 24-105mm f/4 - this is my general "walkaround" lens (tons of versatility for a day out). It's a wonderful lens for landscape as well as portrait work. Its only "downside" is that it doesn't have a very wide/fast aperture (f/4) and it's big/heavy.

Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro - this is the lens I use for my close-up flower images.

Canon 85mm f/1.8 - Super sharp, beautiful colors. Love this portrait lens.

Canon 35mm f/2 - good, fast lightweight wide-angle lens that I like to use indoors or at night. My favorite lens for "diner" shots.

Canon 50mm f/1.4 - the standard "normal" view.  no camera big should be without some variation of a 50mm lens.

Canon 15mm f/2.8 fish-eye - oh my. such a fun toy. quirky, super-wide angle lens that adds a fun curve to images. 180* view side to side and up and down. I have to be careful to keep my fingers and toes out of the images!

Canon 70-200mm f/4 - lightweight telephoto zoom lens. fits better with my family's hiking/roadtripping lifestyle than the heavier f/2.8 version.

Canon 24mm f/1.4 - fast wide-angle. 'nuff said.

Bogen Manfrotto Tripod with Acratech ballhead.

Canon Speedlite 580ex ii - flash that I'm still too intimidated to use

Software:

Lightroom 4 & Photoshop CS5 - my list of really really helpful Lightroom Links

Lumapix Fotofusion for collages (of course, collage work can be done in CS3, but it takes longer and requires more skill than I have).

Books:

Hi Susan...I am semi-new to the Iheartfaces site. I don't know how to create that little 'heart' with my computer keys...**giggle**.

I was reading up on the silhouettes contest and I read the tutorial you wrote which sounds fairly simple, except for the minor big set back that it'll be ME working on the image. ;-)

I don't understand what you mean when you say aperture/higher setting. DO you mean for instance the new Nikon D90 my husband got me for Mother's Day (I have 2 brand new lens with it), one is 18-105mm and the other is 55-200 mm, however I also have an old Nikon lens (about 4 years old) that Wolf Camera told me would still attach to the D90 but the lens isn't as updated. Even still it is a 70-300 mm. So from what I read on your tutorial I should usse the largest number lens, is this right? At least for manual focus, well even automatic focus, correct? Since I'm uncertain of my older 70-300 lens I might test a few pics with it today but will also switch over to my 55-200mm.

I'm sorry I'm just VERY new to really 'learning' about how to maximize my passion for photography. I don't care about contests or anything; I just want to learn. However I still want to enter the contests so I can see if what I did was correct and compare it to other images.

Thanks for answering this aperature thingy....so confused with all the lingo. But I'm so loving it as well. I also have another question but will just post that on Iheartfaces discussion forum.

Thanks so much for your time in reading this. I too love all the images I viewed from you! They are very incredible. I love them. My biggest struggle now is that when I take a photo I NEVER want to throw it away, but instead I just keep it, like uh, forever....:D

Yours,
