Spokane Falls, Riverfront Park

Wowzers. This place was really amazing/fantastic/surreal/loud/wet. I needed a fish-eye lens in the worst possible way. I couldn't bring myself to put away my camera, despite its wussy (non-existant?) weather sealing.

Big Dude, always one to win my heart by striking a pose to make an awesome image...

IMG_1979

And I was, all, "that's nice, honey. But how 'bout ... ???

IMG_1983-Edit

Oh yeah, and that's not a flat ledge, and there's nothin' but rushing water on the other side, and all that stuff that looks like I put a texture on the image? That's WATER. Slippery water. Everywhere. In the air, on the ground. Luckily when Big Dude slipped off the not-flat ledge, it was onto the drier side of the wall. :-} It's not always easy being awesome.

Being rock stars?

Maybe. But I like to think they were probably giving "ups" to Jesus that Daddy-Big Dude fell on the right side of the wall.

(Why were you blogging at 5:21 AM!!?) Your images are so distinctly yours. The processing is always so rich and moody. And good job on getting that willing husband to participate so willingly and whole heartedly!

(And to answer your question of me: I processed the artist using TRA2 Grandma's Tap Shoes with a fair amount of reduction to opacity on each layer. I think I threw in some shadow and highlight separators, Boutwell Magic Glasses...not much else.)

Hey Julie!!
Nah, I wasn't blogging that early. I was up late last night blogging and set it to publish this morning. ;-)

Thanks for your recipe. I've not remotely tapped into my GTS action. But I surely love how it looked on your images, so I'll have to play more. I don't think I'd realized it had a "grain" factor similar to Old School. Good to know!

I obviously have post traumatic stress disorder--my heart is racing just imagining the "slip and fall". Normally you ARE my therapist, but today I think I NEED a therapist! ;-)

But the photo truly was awesome!

Great images Susan... a combination of bravery - you for keeping your camera out in moist conditions and Big Dude for being such an exciting subject! ;) Your family sure knows how to have a fun time... I love it!
Happy anniversary to you two. We'll be celebrating our 16th at the end of this month.

You mean, that's not a statue standing so perfectly still on that ledge? I was so fooled.

What a spectacularly awesome place! Your man's a brave one. Oh, and that gondola ride I see in the background looks like it would be pretty awesome.

We are going to Seattle next year and I am soooo excited to visit some of these places. This looks amazing (or maybe its just the magic of your photo skills?)
Glad the big dude didn't meet any real harm.

Oh, what drama! First from the falls and then from your Big Dude. The falls are stunning, with all that water and light in the air. Magic! But the standing on the ledge and falling...it just about makes me need to take some anti-anxiety meds. Oh. My.

Goodness, he's not even my husband & I about had a heart attack looking at those pics. Then I read that he actually fell off AND almost had another heart attack! How in the world do you do it?!

So glad Big Dude has God and all His guardian angels looking over him!

Your pics are stunning as always!

Hugs & Blessings!

Oh my!!! Tell the big dude not to do that AGAIN!!!

My heart is racing all the way here in Wisconsin!

Amazing pictures and Fab location!!!

How about the energy that comes from a waterfall!!!??

It's exhilarating.

That must be the reason you hubs did such a crazy thing!!

That photo of Big Dude is still giving me a heart attack!! It's not fair for you to put such a "disturbing" photo on your site. ;)

Awesome, rich, moody, glorious photos!

Yeah, I think the "ups" to Jesus were definitely necessary!

Beautiful place and shots! Your post=processing add gorgeous drama-- not that you needed to ADD much! :)

WOW... amazing! What lens did you end up using? I think they all came out stunning... as usual. ;)

Thanks, All!

Confession: Big Dude didn't technically "fall" from the wall; more like his footing slipped a bit and he jumped down. But to explain it that way takes more words and y'know ... anyhow, he was never in any danger for reals.

JAN - I just slapped a Lightroom preset called CWP Boost on most of these. It seemed like a good fit.

Sharon - I was using my 24-105mm. That's pretty much my "walkaround" lens, as it's quite versatile and the widest angle lens I have currently.

Oh. My. Stinkin'. Heck.

I took a look at that pic of your hubby and then I died.

Lucky for me, I think I'm part cat.

Love these pis. Do NOT love the one of him on the edge, because I get that weird roller caoster, might throw up now, feeling when I look at it.

I'm even afraid of heights in photographs.

But really stunning images and processing. What a beautiful place. Please tell big dude to never ever ever do that again.

Thank you. ;)

wow, that water does look like added texture. Thats cool! I've never seen that place before..this probably sounds dumb, but is it actually by Spokane? Thats where my husbands family all is, but we never visited anyplace like that!

Skeller said...

tearese- yup, right in the heart of Spokane. we walked there from Riverfront Park. it's the Spokane River and (I think???) Miller Street bridge. I could be totally wrong on that bridge name. anyway, it's all downtown.
