Big Dude insisted I take a picture of this ... just like most of the beautiful architecture here, he's pretty sure this monument was created by a lady ... for all the ladies "out there." Enjoy.



And we thusly close our first day at the Grand Canyon with The Princess Bride. (Inconceivable! - You keep saying that word. And I do not think it means what you think it means...)

After many hours of family togetherness in the close confines of the truck, Big Dude considers the trade off of cold versus quiet ...



"So, how long do you think it would take for a snowball to hit the bottom?"

The Hermit's Rest

Amusing conversation...

Big Dude - Should we get hot chocolate here (at some deli) or head on down to Hermit's Rest?

Me - Hermit's Rest sounds good.

BD - Yeah, perfect for a couple hermits like us!

Me - Y'know, I wasn't such a hermit before I married you...

BD - That's only because you were still looking for me.

He's probably right. ;-)

The Hermit's Nest's architect was actually a woman, Mary Colton. And this place (as well as her other Grand Canyon buildings) is beyond beautiful and ingenious; it (and the others) blends seamlessly with the environment around it. Check out this HUGE fireplace (perfect for sipping hot chocolate when it's cold and rainy outside).









Outside there are plenty of telescopes to, ummm, see the canyon up close and personal with. Y'know, on clear days.








Just call us little red riding hood and the Jedi in the soft brown fuzzy hoodie.

Yup, it rained ALL day.


And we're SoCal people. We don't have rain gear.

Not like these people.



These people were SERIOUS about getting their photos.

Photos of ... nothing.



But, it was awfully nice of them to wear a rainbow selection of raincoats just so MY pictures could look nice. ;-)



I know it looks like the clouds are parting. But, I promise you, there were just more clouds under those clouds.

We moved on and left these serious photographers to their craft.
