Hawaii–on the road to Volcanoes National Park

The scenery is diverse, I tell ya.  Blink an eye and it changes dramatically…

Big Dude is NOT known for taking the shortest route from point a to point b.  He takes side roads, and breaks, and field trips within field trips.  This may have been one of his best diversions ever.  Yum.  And YUM.  I want to go back.

Back on our way … did I mention that it takes F O R E V E R to get from point a to point b anywhere on the Big Island?  It does.  Long empty stretches between places.  But pretty.  Everywhere in between is pretty.

Punalu’u Beach, also known as Black Sand beach.  This wasn’t a highlight for me.  I kind of don’t get the attraction.  But, I guess sometimes there are honu turtles all over this beach.  Now, THAT would have been awesome.

Getting closer.  Next stop:  Volcanoes National Park.
