You can tell the frames in which Littlest Dude was controlling the shutter by his huge smile while he looks right. at. the. camera. ;-)
Some dear friends blessed me with this nifty gift for my birthday. It's taking some mental gymnastics for me to re-arrange my thinking regarding self-portraits. I've been shooting myself at arms-length for so long that I forget I can put myself in the picture in other ways.
So my tip of the week: buy yourself a cheapie remote shutter. And get in the picture. It's fun, easy, and you'll thank yourself in the future. :-)

Those are MORE than priceless, Susan!! When my kids were preschoolers I took them to a studio for a session, and brought a book along for me to read to them. It was one that always made them giggle. This was exactly what I envisioned. The photographer was UTTERLY unable to get one decent shot.
I <3 my remote shutter - and my boys do too! They just aren't as good as hiding it from view like your son is!
I just love this storyboard. It makes me want to add a remote shutter to the top of my wishlist. I rarely get in shots and now I know I need to get into them more often!

Beautiful set, Susan! Your son looks like he's enjoying this fun experiment with you. Glad you're able to find another way to do self-portraits. Maybe I should invest in a remote shutter release. =) Btw, is your aperture set to wide open or narrower?
Tracy - I'm sooo bummed with you that your photographer failed to deliver what you envisioned!
Do it, Jen! (it's pretty cheap, considering what camera equipment can cost). I was shooting with my 35mm lens, stopped down to f/3.5. After I set it up and grabbed the focus, I turned it to manual focus (so it would keep shooting instead of trying to grab a new focus if we moved).
I bought and still haven't used it.... I will pull it out today and try.....

i love those! i love my remote clicker and my kids do too. they always have the biggest grin when they get to be the operator. so fun!
