Five accomplished goals …

Following thru on my 2011 goals that I talked about here and here ...

#1&2.  I intentionally “framed” my picture while shooting wide.IMG_0358

#3.  I left all sorts of “distracting elements” in the picture.  (in this case including the suggestive Guild Wars babe, the fish food, the tacky plastic cup, the fish tank,  the Teen’s current school book, Bede’s Ecclesiastical History of the English People, and the hanging electrical cord from the reading light above).

#4.  I’m being intentional about exploring b&w more …

#5.  Despite all those “distracting elements”, still capturing pretty cute images of Littlest Dude as he focuses on his game of choice for the day.  :-)

some of my favorite photos are ones with all that noise intentionally left in there-- years later I look back and remember things that I would have otherwise forgot.

His loft bed is so great!

Getting the surroundings in the shot is more important the older the images get. I love a wide open AP... but I love looking back in time and seeing all the clutter and my surroundings. Great shots. :)

I love this Susan. I am finding that those details tell a better story. Also, when you put them in bw, they are less "distracting". The bw does something to unify them all and thus making it pleasing to view. Gosh, sounding a bit nerdy there. Anyway, I think you get what I'm saying, and that I love to see the details of your life.

I love all of these shots!!! I think your B&Ws are AWESOME!!! Great color and great lighting.I think all the little details on his desk and around your little dude add to the photos making them even better.
Have a good one!!!

I seriously love this picture so much skeller! And I seriously love black and whites! You are the best!
The best Mom : )
The best encourager : )
The best wide open shooter that intentionally frames things.

What a great little nook! With your framing, it took me a few (or longer :) ) seconds to realize that the scene was the same...the black and white made me focus right on his face. :) I always get so frustrated with pictures on some people's websites, that the background has no clutter! How is that possible?! I'm always shooting at some very strange angle in an effort to avoid whatever mess is behind what I want to get a picture of. haha In one of those recent pics (and thank you so much for commenting on my blog...that was SUCH a fun surprise!) where the plastic sea animals are lined up around a chair, in the background is a moving box, still unpacked. That is our life!

Good heavens, Susan. Even your distractions are leading lines. Except for my favorite, the piggy bank. :-)

five down and it's only February! kuddos to you! :-)

now I have to go think of goals for myself... maybe "get W-A-Y better" isn't specific enough.

thanks, All :-)

gee, thanks, Tracey, for calling me out about the b&w unifying everything and making the clutter less unpleasant ;-). I promise the next clutter mess I show will be in full obnoxious color!

Was totally not calling you out on your clutter! I was merely try to make you feel better about showing it off! Oh man, I think I need to insert foot in mouth. Maybe I should take a picture of my clutter and do a blog post? Oh wait, I don't have clutter. JK!!!!!

Tracey - no foot in your mouth! I totally rec'd your comment in the spirit in which you made it. but I had totally pre-planned to show this mess in b/w, knowing that it would be less an assault on the vision ;-)

love this. sometimes it's the details in an image from my childhood i'm most drawn to. what did the kitchen look like in the house we moved from when i was 7? what about the back yard? those things have special meaning and it's wonderful you're including them!
