Thus Begins a New Year...

school1

Some changes this year:

The Littlest Dude has joined the school ranks as an official Kindergartner. But he keeps saying he's in "One-th Grade."

The Middle Dude is spending this year at a Local Christian Classical Academy. Oh yeah, and that's the Dragonslayer's Academy book that he couldn't bear to put down for a couple seconds while I took his requisite first day photo.

[warning: curriculum speak coming - for those who are interested. and for those who are not - skip to the bottom ;-)]
The Eldest Dude is taking his first online class (Classical Writing Diogenes). And though we have him here pictured with his current books, he'll soon be finished with Elementary Greek and Latin Prep. He'll then be using Machen's New Testament Greek for Beginners and a combination of Lingua Latina and So You Really Want to Learn Latin 3.

Picture credit to the Eldest Dude for the photos of me and Brett together. Didn't he do well?!?

Fun first day of school collage! The pictures of you and littlest dude together are wonderful. I need to get more photos of myself with the boys!! Maybe I'll put Levi to work. :)

What grades are your older two beginning?

Happy learning!

Meliss-
Thanks! We're pretty proud of him and his hard work!

Lisa -
YES!!! An online class, and Kathy Weitz (writer of the amazing student workbooks) is the teacher!!! I'm signed up on the CW newletter list and heard about it that way.

Heidi-
Thanks :-) Eldest is 7th. And Middle Dude is 3rd.

MamaC- Thanks for your well-wishes!

Classical writing is something else we looked at before choosing "Write at Home." And we use Latin Prep, too.

Great pictures - and can you believe we've been doing school for four weeks now??

thats neat that you're doing different things for each kid, based upon their needs I assume. Sounds like they're going to be well-rounded guys.

I love the sweet pictures of your boys. You always do amazing things with your pictures! I see "Omnibus". That is eye candy to me! We are learning Latin too!

Blessings on the new school year.

It looks like Eldest Dude has quite the classical year coming up! I quit Latin for my oldest years ago, but I'm starting it up again with the middle one and his cousin. That's my candy!

Eldest Dude did awesome with the photo of you and your youngest!! LOVE it.

So, your middle son is in school but the other two are home schooled? Or am I confused?

I'm impressed, Greek and Latin?! That's cool. I loved, loved, loved Latin. And Greek Mythology.

Rhea-
You're not confused. Oldest and youngest are homeschooled. Middle is going to school this year (this is what our Eldest Dude did his 3rd grade year, also).

Loved the BOB books - taught both my kids to read with those. Perfect. And I am so wistful that my kids are not learning Greek and Latin :-) And that I haven't (yet) either...but who knows what might be to come...I guess French and Spanish and German aren't too shabby either. Maybe in Heaven we'll get to learn LOTS of languages :-)
