Chasing Meteors – Part 5

And finally we arrive at the Perseid Meteors part.  Photo deets:  every Joshua Tree pic (minus one obvious fisheye) is taken with my 24mm.  The star pics were all long exposure, but capped at 30 seconds (because I couldn’t get my remote and bulb setting to speak to each other).  My f/stops ranged between 5.0 and 2.8.  The darker it got, the more wide open I went (since I was capped at 30 sec).  ISO ranged from 800 to 2500 (again, the darker it got, the higher went my iso).  Tripod – yes.  I used one.  Oh, and I switched focus to manual, set at infinity.
But first … boys, rocks, crescent moon & silhouettes… Dinner time for Dog Dude. Oh, and between these two pics is when Big Dude and I took a walk down the road and I *almost* stepped on what I thought was animal poop.  I sidestepped.  Big Dude took a closer look with a flashlight.  The “poop” was a tarantula.  I will not post that pic.  You’re welcome. Horizon lit by the moon (which was setting) … Fisheye (above and below) … Despite being in the middle of nowhere Joshua Tree, apparently we were in LAX’s flight path.  Any of the dotted and/or red lines you see are planes.  The lower left [faint] line is a meteor/comet.  Hills lit by car headlights. Meteor top middle… more obnoxious car headlights … Keller Dudes, stargazing …Big Dipper middle.  Comet (faint) lower left edge … Milky Way larger than life.  Comet lower left. Comet middle … More car headlights on rocks.  Comet lower left, just above the rocks.       Flashlights …  New location, more car headlights (sigh), comet lower right … Super fun night.  I hope we go back for next year’s shower.  You can scroll back thru the last couple weeks to find the other Joshua Tree Chasing Meteor posts, if you so desire ...
