The Rock Picture–The Back Story

IMG_5789T
So, Mother’s Day was our first off-road experience with the Jeep.  Along our meanderings, we saw these guys rock climbing.  I shot this through the window (which was rolled up, ‘cuz it was H.O.T. out there), but in this case I was quite pleased with the pattern created on the rocks by the reflected mountains in the windows – happy accident.

Fast forward to the end of our off-roading … these guys were now off the rock, relaxing in the shade.  I asked Big Dude to let me out, so I could offer to email them the picture.  Here’s what you need to know about me:  “friendly-outgoing-extrovert-who-talks-to-strangers” is not my middle name.  Truly.  But I was thinking that if I was the one on the rocks and there was such a cool picture of me, I would want it.  So I got over myself, and asked if I could email them the pic.  The one guy was all like, “yeah. whatever.  I’ve got lots of pics of rock-climbing.”  And in my head I was screaming, “DUDE.  You don’t have this one.  Wrapping a giant landscape around people is WHAT I DO.”  Anywhoo, not to leave you with the impression that he was rude (he wasn’t).  I emailed.  He thanked.  And I’m left with this neato pic for I Heart Faces’ “in the distance” challenge.

Oh Susan. That just makes me smile. I had to give myself the same pep talk when I got a really fun shot at the zoo of a lynx playing through the window with two little girls. This one is amazing, and I hope that he now knows he really did want it! I also hope he didn't put a damper on your courage for next time.

I love the shot. It's beautiful. And I'm positive none of his other pictures of rock climbing were like this one.

I'm not that extroverted type either, but my six year old is, therefore I have many small chit chatty awkward conversations with randoms in the grocery store or anywhere else we go. :/ It's torture for me, but it would be 100x more torturous for my son to keep to himself and not get to speak to everyone in sight, so lately I just kind of go with it.

So great! Maybe I should shoot through more windows for surprise textures. :)

Love this 'off the road', 'out the window' and 'in the distance' shot, Susan! A memorable adventure to be sure! Actually looks like he was waving to you, too! :)
