Drumroll, please....

Book Chapter Submission!1

Book Chapter Submission!2

The Eldest Dude has sent his book sample off to Scholastic. We all have high hopes. His finished book clocks in at just under 100,000 words. He didn't send in ALL those words to Scholastic - just one chapter's worth, as per our instructions as found in The 2008 Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market guide.

Note to fellow homeschool geeks using Classical Writing: we have wrung dry every last bit of wisdom from the Homer level in editing and preparing this book for submission. We've utilized summary paragraphs and precis statements for our submission cover letter. We have heavily edited beginning chapters using concision to remove unnecessary details. We have turned our characters inside out to make sure their words & actions were consistent and believable (well, as believable as possible in a children's fantasy novel!). Classical Writing is truly an amazing writing curriculum.

ps. Please ignore the bird poop on our mailbox. I try to.

How very exciting. Katie wants to be a writer as well. We'll have to follow what happens! Right now she has just posted her stories on her blog.

Way to go, Eldest Dude!! I just know he's gonna be great!!!! I can't wait to hear back. What an awesome thing to support your child through.

And, your mailbox is soo cool! I love it! Bird poop and all. (I totally didn't see it until you pointed it out)

Hey, cool! And good luck, Eldest Dude.

I didn't even notice the bird poop. Seriously, that's nothing compared to what chickens can do to a deck. And I don't even complain about the chickens on the deck now that we have ducks. You have no idea what nine small ducks can do to a deck in under fifteen minutes. *shudder* And why they like to gather RIGHT OUTSIDE MY BACK DOOR is beyond me. *sigh*

Sorry. I can go on (and on and on) about bird poop now.

First of all... you guys have an awesome mailbox. Second of all... I"m interested to see if something comes of this! You know, the guy that wrote the Eragon series was a 19 year old homeschooler when he wrote Eragon!

First of all...is that a leather mailbox??? I love it! Secondly, didn't you post an excerpt of one of his stories awhile back? I seem to remember something like that. I can't wait to hear about it if he wins!

Susan, it's just so very cool that Eldest Dude has completed, revised, edited and finally sent off a submission for publication at such a young age, KUDOS to him! So very exciting! How absolutely proud you must be (I'm beyond impressed and he's not even my kid---LOL!).

Hugs & Blessings!

Like everyone else, I didn't notice the bird poop until you brought it up. What a lesson for me in other things I'm sure people will notice. Anyway, this photo is all about the boy in the bright orange shirt, and the pretty tree in the background - is that an olive tree?
