On our daytrip 3 weeks ago (you can search our travels for our time in Orocopia Mtn Wilderness), we had four strikes against us: we didn’t know about Mecca Hills, we weren’t able to make fire, we didn’t have College Kid with us, and we didn’t get to BBQ dinner in Joshua Tree. We corrected all those missing elements with this daytrip.
As with our Orocopia trip, I’m always amazed by the sheer amount of agriculture that happens in the desert, AND the quickness with which the landscape changes as soon as the water is not flowing. Observe …
Right after we crossed the water canal, we turned off onto this dirt road to explore Mecca Hills. No more agriculture!
