Shasta Lake

Yup, signs of CA's drought. When the water's this low, you can see all sorts of interesting sights, like portions of Hwy 99, old train trestles, former bridges ... things that ended up underwater when the dam was built.

That's a whole lotta shore showing. You can bet water rights litigation in CA is hotter than ever right now.

Two years ago on a driving trip my husband and I drove by there but didn't stop. I was dismayed at how low the water was. These photos really show how bad it is.

Irene - isn't it hard to believe it's nowhere near as low as it was in 1977 (when it was 220+ feet below crest). Currently it's about 120ish feet below crest.

wow! That is amazing!! I don't think we've ever had a problem with water around here. We are always way too wet. I would love to go dig around in that shore line. :)

The two lane bridge in photo #1 was more precarious than it appears. You can see me holding back middle dude and little dude as it was a 100ft drop (that's 10 stories! at LEAST 4 seconds hang time when we dropped some rocks) to the shore and water...and the railing clearly doesn't meet the UBC (Universal Building Code?) requirement that a 4inch ball can't pass between the rails. We didn't spend too much time there as it made daddy a little nervous...and I don't get nervous very easy.
