My very first baby just really doesn't look like a baby anymore. He looks like .... well, .... a teenager.
But he isn't. Oh no, he's not. Not for another year.
He might walk a block behind the rest of us. And he might look in a mirror (or any reflective surface) every time he passes one to check his wayward strands of hair. And he certainly knows how to roll his eyes at us (and we give him lots of opportunity for practice :-). He's beginning to like "cool" clothes. He also actively looks for ways to help me out. And he watches out carefully for his youngest brother. He has the book smarts and scholarly tendencies of one older than himself. He is already an author and has a gifted way with words, both spoken and written.
But he is NOT a teenager. Yet.

Yikes!!! Your pictures and editing make him look like a stud! Go big Dude. :-)
You gotta go check out what Julie posted this morning. She had me rolling and I can't believe what she posted. She is so funny! I am still laughing.
Oooo...love this. And especially love that last picture. I think that we need to arrange a betrothal between two kindred souls :-).
Yep, there's a teenager-ness beginning to show. But there are HUGE advantages to having teenagers in the house. Just look away before the eye rolls, and pull out the childbirth breathing techniques for driver's ed. Those are my handy dandy hints for the future (-:
Happy Anniversary of being a mom, too! That's a big day.
Warmly,
Di

He's such a cutie. I love those looks on his face. Great captures.
Mine is almost twelve too...just a few more months...and he looks in every mirror he passes too. And helps me out. And is such a wonderful boy. I'm loving this age...when he isn't hormonal.
Happy Birthday!
I'm both dreading and looking forward to my boys getting that old. I'm going to miss the baby faces, but by golly, I can't wait to see the little men they become.
You certainly captured 'twelve-ness' in those photos. :)
Wow... you so adequately captured a boy on the edge of teenager-hood. Great pictures!
Your images look so amazing Susan!! Particularly the first black and white one :)
Happy birthday biggest dude of the littlest kind! God has some great plans in store for you!!
Gosh, I really loved teaching this age group! They were already looking forward to teenage/adult years, but still had that little kid heart. Happy Birthday Eldest Dude, may the sun always make your eyes shine bright and may you always know how very much your mom loves you! Don't be in too big of a hurry to grow up--it's totally overrated! LOL!!
Hugs & Blessings!
This season is bitter sweet for me as well.. Celebrating 25 years with my man and my oldest turning 13 in just a few weeks. Where has the time gone?
Oh, my. Twelve and nine are a world apart, aren't they? Note to self: don't blink!
Dude, when I was 12... I thought I was such big stuff. I felt old. Can you imagine? Ask your boy, does he feel old?
Because he's a baby. Still. He might be taller than me (likely!) but 12 is still snuglle-able, put-in-your-place-able, give -mom-some-lovin'-able...
right?
I mean.... 12?!
Ahhhhhhhh!
Those shots are gorg. I think I'm I'm taking my family to SoCal just so you can take their pics.
And email me pretty please (not today, fergoodnesssakes... enjoy your holiday) but soonish, please.
xoxoxo
Happy Thanksgiving.
These pix are stunning. And what an incredibly handsome young almost teenage son you have. My youngest son is 12 1/2. We have been dealing with the waiting for him to get his hair just right phase for about a year now. Don't even get me started on the clothing issue.
On, question: how do you get your blog pictures to show so large? I use blogger, also, but I can't get mine any bigger than what they look like right now. I like the big shots.
Happy Birthday! :)
oh Susan, look at C..
I can't believe how grownup he looks. Both in his face, and clothes...
he might hate me for this but he trully does have the sweetest heart ever, I can't see it in the way he is with Rylan. You should be ever ever so proud of that first of yours... He is going to shine far beyond your wildest dreams one day... Its true!
Oh that bottom picture.
What wonderful processing, focus, eyes....
