I love book lists! I am so with you on Chiam Potok. I got my book club to read "The Chosen" and then "My name is Asher Lev." Great, great books. Did you ever seen the movie of "The Chosen?" With Robby Benson? I actually saw that before I read the book.
And "Watership Down" is one of my favorite books...but I didn't know anyone else who liked it but me!
I love book lists, too, and Watership Down is on my favorites list. :) Your list fascinates me. Many of your books are ones that I have loved, but I've steered away from both Cather and Steinbeck. I don't do gritty and I get depressed easily, LOL. I'll have to check out some of the others you listed...
I had a blast picking out my own favorites lately when I set up my Amazon store. It feels like coming across old friends when you search your bookshelves and find books you've loved.
Kat - I don't think I ever saw the movie. I should put that one in my Netflix queu.
Heidi - I totally understand. And yes, Steinbeck & Cather are not exactly cheerful writers. And definitely, neither is Potok. Much tho I LOVE and respect his books, I can't read them when I'm depressed or when I'm not willing to go to a darker, more somber & sad place.
